It is with heavy hearts but a deep sense of gratitude for a
life beautifully lived that the family announces the passing of Alden
Edwin Weeks of O'Leary, P.E.I., on July 5, 2026 at the age of
86.
Alden was born on August 7, 1939, in South Kildare, near
Alberton, P.E.I.. He was the son of the late Agnes Christina Arthur
and Leigh Gordon Weeks. In 1954, Alden moved with his family from
South Kildare to Alberton. Guided by a lifelong love of learning, he
went on to earn both his B.A. and B.Ed. degrees from the University of
Prince Edward Island.
In 1956, Alden embarked on what would become a distinguished
35-year career in education. A natural leader, he spent 30 of those
years in school administration, shaping young minds and supporting
families as the Principal of O’Leary Public School and later
O’Leary Consolidated Elementary School. Because of the deep
bonds he formed over these decades, Alden warmly requested that
everyone in attendance at his service consider themselves an honorary
pallbearer.
Alden's impact on the town of O'Leary extended far past the
classroom walls. He was a dedicated community historian, devoting
hundreds of hours to researching and writing the history of the town
in his book, "Threads of the Past". His artistic eye also
left a permanent mark on the community; he designed the official town
crest, which proudly flies on the Community of O’Leary
flag.
An artist at heart, Alden spent years painting stunning
landscapes and seascapes. His family holds these paintings close to
their hearts, with special pieces dedicated to his children and
grandchildren, including landscapes like Gathering Rocks, Out on the
Meadow, Wild White Rose, Lady Slipper, and Mill River.
Alden was also defined by his spirit of service. He
volunteered for many years at the local museum and gave generously of
his time to his church community.
Alden was the beloved husband and lifelong partner of Audrey
Lillian (MacPhee) Weeks. He was a proud and devoted father to his
daughter, Aldene (Jason) Smallman, and his son, Kimball (Liza) Weeks.
His legacy lives on through his four cherished granddaughters, who
brought immense joy to his life: Bray (Adam) MacKinnon, Brynn (Scott)
MacLean, Ella, and Olivia, as well as four great grandsons, Cal,
Benny, Nate and Lee. He is also survived by his dear brother, Wendell
Weeks, as well as extended family, former colleagues and generations
of students.
